When people ask me what I do, I tell them I blog. And sure, I do have a job that makes actual money but that job isn’t what I love nor is it what I want for the rest of my life. I tell people I blog because I love words. Honestly, I love how certain letters make up certain words that can make people feel a certain way. There’s nothing I enjoy more than reading my comments and emails (and yes I do read them all, even if I don’t always reply); and seeing people say that my posts made their day or made them want to try something new and complimenting my way with words. I love the community around blogging, all the friends I’ve made and how supportive we are with one another. I love how I’ve found my path and, for the first time in my life, feel as if I belong here.
A few days ago I was nominated by Kayty Sheard over at Simply Sheard for a Liebster Award which is an award that goes to bloggers with less than 200 followers. She gave me eleven questions to answer and the task to nominate at least eleven other bloggers.
1. How did you decide on the title of your blog?
I decided on My Life As Katie because I wanted to be relatable and my blog is quite literally my life. My thoughts and feelings. In the words of Macklemore, “I shed my skin and put my bones into everything.” Everything I write. Everything I say. Everything I post. Everything I do. Some people want to be a brand and they only put out what they want others to view them as. Not me. I don’t broadcast every high nor do I hide every low. I am trying to live, not convince the world that I have life. And even though I don’t reveal everything to the world, My Life As Katie is just that.
2. What is one word that sums up the heart of your blog and why?
Oh. This is a tough one. But if I had to choose one word, it would be faith. Faith in God foremost because if we don’t stand for Him, we will fall for everything. Faith in myself to continue to inspire people with the little words I write. Faith in the world because the good will always outweigh the bad. Faith and believing and trusting and loving and standing for something because if we don’t, we will stand for nothing. And I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be nothing. I feel like I could write a whole post about this, to be honest.
3. What are your favorite pastimes besides blogging?
Is this where I talk about how proficient I am at social media? No? Okay. I really enjoy taking pictures, traveling, spending time with friends and family, binge watching reality tv because it’s great entertainment, eating because I love food, and then running so I don’t gain weight from said food. Oh I also enjoy dancing and singing, even though I’m terrible at it. Reading because there is nothing I love more than getting lost in a good book.
4. What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
I love, love, LOOVE how people from all over the world, people I may never meet in places I may never go to, read my blog. I started my blog on a whim, just wanting to write and putting myself out there but I never knew that I could have the kind of impact on people I’m having. It’s mind-blowing to me that people keep coming back to my blog and reading it.
5. Which project, recipe, or idea on my blog would you most like to try yourself?
I would love to try your Chex Mix recipe!!
6. Where does your blog inspiration come from?
Myself. And I mean this in the most non narcissistic way possible. I just mean that it only takes me 1-2 hours to write a post because I can just see something from my life and think that it would be a good post. It’s like as soon as I start typing, the words start flowing and before you know it, I’ve said what I wanted to say. I think I’m different from most bloggers because I don’t outline before I start to write. I just write and let the words come out the way they’re supposed to. I also don’t put too much pressure on myself to write a post because I don’t want to write just because I may not have updated in a few days or weeks. Quality over quantity.
7. What is one country you would like to visit and why?
Oh that’s tough too! There’s so many places I’d like to see. It’s a tie between Europe and Australia but I’ll go with Australia. I want to learn to surf there, and see the Sydney Opera House and kangaroos. I fed kangaroos at Busch Gardens once and they were so cute! I just want to see a different part of the world than what I’m used to. I want to learn about different cultures and life isn’t meant to be lived in one place doing the same thing for years.
8. If you have children, what are their names? If not, what are your favorite boy and girl names?
No kids and nowhere ready to have kids but my favorite names are Kennedy, Kendall, and Reagan.
9. A long-lost relative leaves you a large sum of money. What do you do with it?
I would probably spend half and save half. I’d most likely travel around the world for maybe a summer or a year.
10. In your opinion what’s the best blog post you’ve written so far and why?
Probably An Open Letter To My Future Self. This post represents exactly who I am, who I want to be and the kind of life I want to live.
11. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Definitely still blogging. Maybe married or in a serious relationship at this time, but no pressure to rush into anything. Living in Charleston, South Carolina, or maybe somewhere in Florida or California. I’d love to publish a book by this time or at least be working on one.
Now, If you’d like to be nominated for a Liebster Award all you have to do is have less than 200 followers on your blog and either comment below or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line Liebster Award.
Happy New Year!!
